Patients may be referred either through internal routes (within the University of Florida/Shands Childrens Hospital system), or via external means. 

Referring physicians may contact our coordinator, Hillary Bowers, ARNP through our academic offices at (352) 273-5199. 

Prior medical records may be requested, which will then be discussed among team members at our monthly team meeting.  If the patient is thought to be a good candidate for full team evaluation, arrangements will be made to schedule appointments to see appropriate team members. 

Our goal is to cluster as many visits as possible within a 1-2 day time frame to minimize trips to and from Gainesville, Florida.  In addition, efforts will be made to coordinate multiple procedures on a child under one anesthetic.

• Congenital nasal disorders (e.g. choanal atresia)

• Laryngomalacia (floppy voice box)
• Vocal cord paralysis
• Respiratory papillomas (airway warts)
• Subglottic stenosis (scarring in voice box)
• Stridor of any etiology (noisy breathing)
• Tracheomalacia (collapsed windpipe)
• Tracheal stenosis (narrowing of windpipe)
• Tracheotomy dependence (breathing tube in airway)
• Tracheo-esophageal fistula (abnormal connection between windpipe & food pipe)
• Asthma/Reactive airway disease
• Cystic fibrosis
• Bronchiectasis
• Recurrent pneumonia
• Pulmonary hypertension
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease
• Eosinophilic esophagitis
• Immunodeficiency

The airway involves the entire respiratory system of a child. This includes their nose, paranasal sinuses, pharynx (throat), larynx (voice box), trachea (windpipe), and lungs.

In addition, other conditions can affect the function of the airway, such as gastroesophageal reflux or swallowing difficulties.
